The “Ark of the World” is a Greek non-profitable organization for poor and homeless children; for children with family problems – children who need the warmth of a family when their own cannot provide it. The Ark was established in 1998 by then 26-year old priest Antonios Papanikolaou; his resources were his love for children in general and his desire to create a haven of warmth and care for these children, in particular – the ones that exist in “another” Athens. Along with a group of volunteers who selflessly frame father Antonios and the children with a predisposition to offer love, today the “Ark of the World” shelters approximately 400 children under its wings. The children range in age from infancy to 18 years of age; thus creating a community of love and humanity that flourishes and thrives in the center of Athens.

These were children who experienced daily abandonment, indifference, racism and social exclusion in one of the most degraded areas of Athens: Akadimia Platonos. Seeing the unspeakable poverty and despair of these children, father Antonios did not hesitate to dedicate his life to this work – a work that, apart from an ongoing act of love, is his life’s work.

Today, the children (mostly Greek but from other countries also) experience the warmth and peace of the “Ark of the World” away from poverty, hunger, racism, and other afflictions that torment our society – in short, the misery they were used to.

In November 2003, the “Ark of the World” received an award as one of the best organizations in Greece that specialize on childcare. The nomination was part of a moving ceremony in the Old Parliament building and the award was presented by then President of Democracy, Mr. Konstantinos Stephanopoulos.

On Saturday 24 October 2015, Satolia Productions are organizing a dance night at Kitchen Bar Alimou for the financial support of the organism “Ark of the World”.

The event will begin at 10:00 pm and will include dancing lessons for everyone with Latin dance instructors and dancing performances by professional duets throughout the night. Entrance fee is 10 euros (plus drink). All the money will be given for the financial support of the Ark, which is also in need of food. Those who wish to contribute to the Ark’s work this way can bring long-term items (pasta, rice, canned food, etc.) upon arrival at the event.
